„Der Titel der Ausstellung „The Short Blanket“ bezieht sich auf eine populäre brasilianische Redewendung, die die Herausforderung beschreibt, konkurrierende Bedürfnisse mit begrenzten Ressourcen zu befriedigen: Wenn man die Decke hochzieht, um sich die Schultern zu wärmen, bleiben die Füße kalt - und andersherum.

In diesem Zusammenhang untersucht „The Short Blanket“ die Spannungen und Widersprüche der Mutterschaft, insbesondere den weit verbreiteten Mythos, dass „wir alles haben können“. Statt zur Befreiung wird dieses Ideal oft zur Last und erzeugt das Gefühl, zu kurz zu kommen - sei es bei der Kinderbetreuung, der Bewältigung der häuslichen Arbeit, der Aufrechterhaltung der beruflichen (oder künstlerischen) Arbeit oder der Pflege von Beziehungen und Freundschaften -, was kein persönliches Versagen ist, sondern ein Symptom des patriarchalischen Systems, das solch unrealistische Erwartungen an Frauen stellt und davon profitiert.

„The Short Blanket“ ist eine Fortsetzung der Gespräche, die während des Symposiums „Parenting in the Arts“ begonnen wurden.

Die Ausstellung wird unterstützt von BBK Bayern Verbindungslinien, dem Kulturreferat der Landeshauptstadt München, Kreativ München & FLORIDA.“

“The exhibition’s title ‘The Short Blanket’ refers to a popular Brazilian expression describing the challenge of trying to meet competing needs with limited resources: when you pull the blanket up to warm your shoulders, your feet are left cold—and vice versa.

In this context, ‘The Short Blanket’ explores the tensions and contradictions of motherhood, particularly the pervasive myth that ‘we can have it all.’ Instead of liberation, this ideal often becomes a burden, generating a persistent sense of falling short—whether in caring for children, managing domestic labor, sustaining professional (or artistic) work, or nurturing relationships and friendships .Crucially, this is not a personal failing but a symptom of the patriarchal systems that sets—and benefits from—such unrealistic expectations placed on women.

“The Short Blanket” is a continuation of the conversations started during the Symposium “Parenting in the Arts”.
